1. Not Medical Advice
The BMI calculator, calorie calculator, ideal weight calculator, and all other tools on BMI Hero are designed to provide general health information based on widely accepted formulas. They are not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.
BMI is a screening tool, not a diagnostic instrument. A BMI result does not constitute a medical assessment of your health. Many factors affect body composition that BMI cannot capture, including muscle mass, bone density, age, sex, and ethnic background.
2. Accuracy of Calculations
Our calculators use established, peer-reviewed formulas including:
- BMI: World Health Organisation (WHO) standard formula — weight (kg) ÷ height (m)²
- Calorie needs (TDEE): Mifflin-St Jeor equation, widely used in clinical nutrition
- Ideal weight range: Derived from the WHO healthy BMI range of 18.5–24.9
While we strive for accuracy, results are estimates based on population-level data. Individual results may vary due to factors our tools cannot account for. We cannot guarantee the accuracy or completeness of any information provided.
3. BMI Limitations
BMI has known limitations that users should be aware of:
- It does not distinguish between muscle mass and fat mass — athletes and muscular individuals may be classified as overweight despite low body fat
- It does not account for fat distribution (e.g. abdominal fat vs. hip fat), which affects health risk differently
- Standard adult BMI thresholds do not apply to children and teenagers — age-specific percentile charts must be used
- BMI may be less accurate for older adults, pregnant women, and certain ethnic groups
4. Teenagers and Children
For users under 18, our calculator provides BMI results with an advisory note explaining that teen BMI interpretation requires age-and-sex-specific percentile charts. The standard WHO adult categories shown are indicative only. Parents and guardians should consult a paediatrician for proper assessment of a child's or teenager's weight status.
